JOB TITLE: Release of Information Specialist

Job Summary:

Responsibilities include responding to requests for records, logging record requests into EHR system, identifying records that may be released, retrieving requested information from EHR or archived paper records, facilitating appropriate approvals for cost and release, and sending records to requester using a secure process; providing excellent customer service to clients and staff with queries regarding release of information processes; assisting with HIS clerical duties as needed, including monitoring of client records.

The duties outlined which include, but are not limited to, shall be performed in accordance with the defined business process using the corporation's policies, procedures, Mission and Vision Statements, and Joint Commission's Standards and all other Federal and State Guidelines.

Essential Duties/Requirements/Activities:

  • Obtain proficient knowledge of Peace River center's mission, vision and performance expectations. Become well-versed in the company's policies and procedures as well as state and federal guidelines regarding record retention requirements.
  • Ability to and serve as a liaison for staff and clients and adhere to HIPAA standards, accrediting and licensing agency requirements, state and federal laws governing confidentiality of records in behavioral and medical health organizations.

Qualifications:

Education:

  1. High school diploma

Experience:

  1. Minimum of 2 years' experience working with medical records or in an administrative position, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Certifications:

  1. None required

Training:

  1. All DCF Training will be required post-employment

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Intermediate experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  2. Knowledge of HIPAA and how it relates to medical records department processes.
  3. Experience utilizing Electronic Health Records or similar systems.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Work Environment:

The work environment is fast-paced and consists of exposure to physical conditions typical of a normal office environment. The populations cared for will include patients who are confused, delusional, irrational, agitated, or uncooperative. Most of the job is performed while sitting, although the work may require occasional standing or walking and/or the lifting and carrying of small objects. A small amount of travel may be required for meetings etc. to another PRC location.
