Cook PRN/SRT/173/KW

This position is responsible for the preparation of food and beverages necessary to meet the production needs of the Dietary Services Unit. When acting as a cook this person also oversees daily food service operations.

  • Supervise dietary services through the proper management of personnel and physical resources as well as ensure contract compliance with external customers.
  • Skillfully prepares food and beverages in appropriate quantities to satisfy the production needs of the Dietary Services Department.
  • Serve as a liaison between management and vendors, external authorities, and customers for related services and contract operations.
  • Facilitate dietary operations through the appropriate coaching, training, and assessment of staff.
  • Work as an integral part of the dietary services team to ensure the satisfactory provision of nutritional services and when necessary advise and assist in the correction of any noted area of deficiency.
  • Monitor and document monitoring activities of dietary operations to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Perform front line supervisor duties and act as a mentor and coach to assist in the personal growth and development of unit staff.
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal communication skills in order to interact professionally with staff and/or persons from other agencies and/or companies.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, sit and/or stand for prolonged periods and lift at least 50 lbs. in order to carry out the functions associated with this position.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain a daily routine so as to appropriately supervise and coordinate dietary services.
  • Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of work-related materials and information.
  • Must comply with other organizational policies and procedures except those for which the employee gives notice of the need for reasonable accommodation and for which the organization can make such reasonable accommodation.

Qualifications:

Education:

Candidate must possess a high school diploma.

Experience:

Candidate should have a minimum of 2 years' experience cooking within an institutional healthcare environment.

Certifications:

Candidate must possess Servsafe Food Handler's Certification. Other similar certifications by recognized certifying agencies may be considered.

Training:

Candidate must complete all necessary training in order to obtain and maintain required certification status as well as complete all agency assigned trainings.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must meet all requirements necessary to maintain status as a Designated Agency Driver.

Technology Requirement:

As an employee of Peace River Center, if you are not assigned a company-issued phone, you will be required to authorize the use of the Microsoft Authenticator app on your personal mobile device. This is necessary to access our payroll and communication system, Paycor, and Microsoft email as examples. This will ensure secure and efficient communication with the organization.

Supervisory Relationship(s)

Supervises dietary aides.

Work Environment:

Regularly works within food production facility with exposure to sharp tools, hot and cold surfaces, wet floor conditions, and varying work temperatures. Work environment also includes normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, or varying temperatures. May be exposed to adverse working conditions due to contact with people who are mentally ill, may be psychotic, or may present some exposure to communicable diseases, be verbally abusive or present a threat of violence.
